When a family is in crisis, the legal questions are rarely the only ones on the table. Tanya understands this better than most because she has spent her entire professional life navigating families through their hardest moments, which has been based on the work of two careers. Her work in family law was built on an earlier career as a therapist. Over that time, she has learned that favorable outcomes depend as much on understanding people as on knowing the law. Her work as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker took her into the courtroom as an expert witness long before she practiced law there. It also gave her a clinician’s understanding of family systems, mental health, child abuse, domestic violence, and substance abuse, which remain some of the most sensitive matters in family law.
Clients come to Tanya for clear strategy and steady judgment during some of the most difficult chapters in their lives. She approaches each case with the same commitment, which is to protect clients and children, stabilize families and ensure clients can move forward successfully while feeling protected. Tanya thoughtfully and strategically negotiates cases outside the courtroom, but is also a master of her trade inside the courtroom.
Tanya’s practice is also devoted to appellate advocacy. She handles appeals with careful analysis and attention to the record. Whether she is protecting a favorable ruling or challenging an unjust one, Tanya gives clients a meaningful second look at outcomes that shape the future of their families.
Tanya is a founding shareholder of Sherr Puttmann Akins Lamb PC after practicing law at a preeminent law firm in Chicago. She serves as the firm’s Chief Financial Officer and managing the firm’s finances has sharpened her command of numbers, an asset for clients whose cases involve high-value estates, business interests, and complex financial issues. Tanya is admitted to practice law in Colorado and Illinois.
