David is an accomplished courtroom lawyer who has focused nearly his entire career on helping families and children through the legal process. A founding shareholder of Sherr Puttmann Akins Lamb PC, his background spans complex financial, criminal, and family law across both public and private practice. Before entering family law almost 20 years ago, David spent many years as a Senior Deputy District Attorney in Denver, and tried more than 50 jury trials, with a focus on child sexual assault, felony child abuse, and domestic violence. With this experience, he developed a rare ability to navigate high-stakes, emotionally charged litigation. Before that, David litigated complex commercial/financial matters for large Fortune 500 companies.
In 2026, David was named one of the Top Five family law attorneys in Colorado by the publication Colorado Super Lawyers.
David is a frequent lecturer on trial practice, family law and evidence and has taught these topics and others for the Colorado Bar Association, the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, and the University of Denver Law School. He is equally at home in the courtroom and at the negotiating table, and often steers clients toward mediation and arbitration to resolve cases fairly without the cost of trial. David also serves as a professional mediator, arbitrator, PCDM, and court-appointed Guardian ad litem in domestic and juvenile matters.
